As part of a NZZ data investigation, this story highlights how overlooked civil wars shape today’s geopolitical tensions. The centerpiece is an animated 3D globe that visualizes ACLED conflict data as bars rising from locations of political violence.

The visualization is embedded as a video and contrasts linear and logarithmic scales to reveal both large-scale wars and lesser-known unrest. Through this spatial and temporal rendering, the design allows for intuitive comparison of global conflict intensity while integrating seamlessly into the article’s narrative flow.
